Explorers with a heart of Pink!

0:00

On Oct 16th 2011, I entered my Alhambra Police Explorers into the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure 5K run in the city of Temecula. These kids were completely clueless as to what the Susan G. Komen case stood for. They did not question my reason for signing them up for such an event but they went with interest. They enjoyed the presence of all those who were around them and touched by how people dressed, expressed their love for friends and family through dress and song, and they realized how huge of an issue Breast cancer is. They ran their hearts with no complaint. I am proud of them and glad to say that this was our first time participating but not our last. As I stood waiting for them to finish the race, I stood watching everyone else. I was touched by all the different people who had come together for that one day. I saw the dedication in the eyes of young children running and determined to finish strong. I was not informed until after I had planned this event, that my cousin had been told that she has breast cancer. She is going to have surgery and we have all been supportive of her since she is the first in the family. I was proud to have created this small fundraiser although I hate to say I started late. The Explorers are currently still raising money for the cause. We now know how to start a fundraiser and will be better prepared for it next year. We send lots of love, hope and prayers to all you have been affected. Oh, we will see you all next year in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. With love, Officer Magana, Alhambra Police Department.
