Strenght Till The End

0:00

My mom’s battle of Triple Negative Breast Cancer was long and reoccurring. Every time she fought the aggressive “beast” back into remission, it came back, even worse than before. In her 4th battle, she was featured on the Warriors In Pink website, and we were prouder than ever of our valiant fighter, Melisa. In her feature she said “There is hope that a new drug is on the horizon for TNBC”. Mom didn’t get to take the drug, as she had hoped to, but she never ever stopped fighting for a second. Every day, there’s something new. If you stop actively searching for a single day, you could miss the answer you’ve been looking for, and she understood that. I also remember the day I had taken her to one of hundreds of doctor’s appointments, and I also remember them telling her to get her affairs in order. As a young teen, I was terrified by the thought of losing my mom. And for good reason; she was my strength. But even in the dark news, she didn’t lose hope. She continued to fight, and fought it back into remission a few more times, never wavering her strength. Because she choose to fight, she gained years more of life. In that time, she got the chance to see me graduate high school and leave for college. She saw my brother pursue his passion of cars and take his education to a different level. She celebrated 25 years of marriage to our dad. And whether she truly wanted to or not, she got to celebrate 50 years of life. On March 9th, 2011, we lost mom to the fight. But our loss of her was only after she had won so many times. She never stopped fighting, never stopped dancing, and never stopped being grateful of all she had. Thank you Warriors In Pink for embodying the important features of the fight that patients and families already hold so dear. Love and Gratitude
